Horse Services

Important horse care services

Beyond veterinary care, you'll probably need to take advantage of the myriad of horse services available to owners of equine companions. In addition to horse training and horse grooming support, you can enlist professional help for everything from safe transportation of your animal to stabling and medical services.

Complete Services for Horse Owners

If you're a first-time owner of a horse, you should familiarize yourself with all the services available to you in your local area. This will make things easier for you if you need to call on them when you're in a hurry. Here's an overview of the services you may need to make use of:

  • Horse boarding. When you go away for an extended period of time, you need to leave your horse in the care of an experienced handler. Horses have very specific nutritional and grooming needs which must be met, and leaving your animal at a horse boarding facility will ensure they are met.
  • Grooming. If your horse's regular grooming requirements are too much for you to handle on your own, you can hire a professional to come to your home to take care of them for you. Attentive horse grooming is vital to the health of your animal, since flea infestations and parasitic infections can all occur if it's neglected.
  • Horse transport services. Horses need to be transported in specialized vehicles to ensure their safety and comfort. For this reason, you should use the equipment provided by horse transport services; you'll usually have the option of renting a trailer to hitch to your own vehicle, or having the service move your animal for you.
  • Training. If you don't have much experience handling horses, or if you've purchased a young or untrained animal, you'll need some help with horse training. Regardless of whether you plan to use the animal for work on a farm, pleasure riding, horseracing or show events, you'll need to make sure it behaves properly in the presence of people and responds to your commands.
  • Horse chiropractic services. If your animal is particularly active, chances are it will suffer from muscle aches and pains at some point during its life. Using horse chiropractic services when these problems first appear can prevent the onset of chronic conditions; if your horse already has a chronic muscle, joint or bone condition, horse chiropractic services can bring your animal some relief.

The Importance of Farriers

Farriers offer services that are extremely important to your horse's health and safety. These professionals are experts in crafting and placing horseshoes as well as trimming and balancing hooves. They also care for animals with injured or diseased hooves and create specialized footwear for racing horses.

Given that leg breaks can spell the end of a horse's life, and that imbalanced or improperly shoed hooves can cause falls, you should not underestimate the value of a good farrier. After investing so much in buying your horse, it only makes sense that you go to the extra effort to train, groom and care for it properly.

I would like to add the use of Equine Massage to your list of additional services. Equine Massage is less invasive than chiropractic services and is effective in alleviating pain and improving performance. A Registered Equine Massage Therapist uses the manipulation of soft tissue to improve the performance of the horse as a whole. As a practicing Registered Equine Massage Therapist, I have seen the positive effects of massage on a horse's body and mind.

Good advice Brenna. A horses' muscles get tight and knotted just like a human. Equine massage is a great method to relax and vitalize your horse.
