Dog Gifts

Great gifts for dogs and dog lovers

Whether you're throwing your canine companion a birthday party or just want to reward your pooch for learning a new trick or task, you'll find plenty of dog gifts through specialty pet retailers. Shop for dog gift baskets with a selection of little treats or personalized dog gifts made especially for your pet. With the pet industry becoming more competitive than ever, you're really limited only by your imagination.

Of course, there are all sorts of gifts for dog lovers, too, both fun and practical. If you're close to a pet owner who's on a tight budget, you can help them out by giving useful dog gifts like prepaid veterinary checkups, new leashes or collars, or a new cache of dog toys. Or, get creative – custom dog gifts like specially made pet clothing is a perfect way to show you care.

Inexpensive Ideas for Dog Gifts

Retailers of wholesale dog gifts have plenty to offer the budget-conscious consumer. You can give a simple token gift like a dog calendar, which will make a welcome addition to any dog lover's home, or get the pet some simple dog jewelry. You can get a dog placemat, a new food bowl or water dish or a box of treats. If the dog travels often with its adopted family, pet carriers and travel crates are affordable and very practical.

Handmade dog gifts are yet another way you can go if you want to save a buck or two. Crocheted dog sweaters and booties are popular choices for craft-oriented folks, but if you're creative you might try painting a portrait of the dog, sculpting figurines or making homemade dog toys. If you like, you can hunt around your home for raw materials you can transform into a unique dog gift, rather than buy them from a craft supply store.

Creative Alternatives to Conventional Dog Gifts

If the dog you're buying for already has all the toys and accessories a dog could ever want, you've still got plenty of wiggle room to be creative. For example, if the dog is a new puppy, you might give its owner a set of obedience training lessons. If you know the dog has a tendency to wander and get lost, you might help its owner out by buying an invisible fence or electronic pet tracking system.

Of course, there's something to be said for tradition; you'll never go wrong if you give an old stand-by like a gift certificate to a dog grooming salon, a brush, a bottle of dog shampoo or a car cover to keep fur off the owner's seats. In the end, choose dog gifts using the same principle that guide you when you shop for people – stay within your budget and give a gift the dog or dog owner will actually use.
